The Truth About Book Reviews

First off, I had the wrong impression of this book before reading it, which is partially my fault but also partially due to the misleading title. I clearly did not read enough reviews of it.

I was under the impression that this book would give readers tips and tricks on how to write effective book reviews. Alas, I was mistaken. This book focuses on strategies that independent authors can use to effectively market their books. Since I came for the former reasons, this book was mostly uninteresting for me.

The few sections I was interested in revolved around attaining customer reviews on Amazon and on GoodReads. These sections were insightful regarding the type of user that submits a review. It also hits on the inevitability of highly critical reviews, which I found to be quite accurate.

In terms of the actual marketing content and reaching out to reviewers, I found the strategies it provided to be relatively obvious and not insightful.

As a result, I am inclined to rate this book poorly due to the misleading title that led me to purchase it.
